Dedicated internships within the H2020 ENABLE.EU research and innovation project

The Economic Program at the Center for the Study of Democracy offers 2 to 3 internships, lasting 3 to 9 months for outstanding university students, interested in gaining research experience, while working on an international research project, studying the transition to low carbon energy systems in Europe.

About the project: ENABLE.EU project aims to understand the drivers of energy choices in Europe in three areas of consumption – transportation, heating and cooling and electricity. The project covers 11 European countries and applies state-of-art research methodologies for studying four groups of factors, driving individual and collective energy choices and energy behavior – economic, socio-cultural, technological and governance factors.
The research tasks include:
  • Literature review
  • 5 topical case studies (mobility, heating and cooling, electricity, prosumers, and governance)
  • International comparative surveys on households and business enterprises
  • Participatory foresight exercises
  • Reference and policy scenarios development, based on econometric modelling
  • Valorization and exploitation of research results through engagement of targeted stakeholders

  • The dedicated internships are design according to the major project tasks and offer opportunity for participation of the selected interns in the whole life-cycle of the respective project task, e.g. from methodology design through collection and analysis of data, to preparation of research deliverables.

    We are looking for interns, interested in working on:
  • Case study on governance (in-depth exploratory interviews, focus groups, scoreboard cards, stakeholder consultations and mobilisation, limited regulatory analysis)
  • Case study on electricity (randomized control trials methodology)
  • Online survey of business enterprises
  • Stakeholder participation, involvement and mobilization in the area of governance
  • Students from sociology, economics, and political sciences are particularly welcome to apply.

  • Good level of English language; fluency in English will be considered an advantage.
  • Good research and analytical skills; written skills will be considered an advantage.
  • Good computer literacy (spreadsheets, presentations).
  • Good statistics skills and experience with survey data analysis will be considered an advantage for the “online survey” task.
  • Responsibilities: Assist the implementation of the respective research tasks during their whole life-cycle.

    Internship program: Upon entering the CSD internship program, each intern will be assigned to a senior researcher from CSD to oversee and mentor her/his work. Outcomes from the intern’s work might be included or quoted in CSD’s and project’s official publications. Upon the successful internship completion each intern receives a Certificate of Completion and can request a letter of recommendation.
    Note: The internship is unpaid. Specific tasks could involve remuneration, depending on outcomes’ quality and budget limitations.
